Sofjan Wanandi (born in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra, March 3, 1941; born with the name of Lim Bian Koen[1]) is an Indonesian businessman and business owner Gemala Group. Brother of Jusuf Wanandi (senior politician and founder of CSIS).[1]
Former activist of 1966 has had many experiences in the fields of economics, bureaucracy, and politics. Sofjan served Leader of Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) for the period 2008 to 2013.[1]
While studying at the University of Indonesia, he became chairman of the Catholic Student Association of the Republic of Indonesia (PMKRI).[1] When the incident broke out G-30-S/PKI, he was involved in a quarrel with the ideology of the communist Party of Indonesia (PKI).Activism career he became chairman of WE continue with Jaya.[2]
For fighting the communists, without calculating profit and loss statement he immediately jumped into the field. As one of OUR Jaya chairman, he led a variety of action until the end, he had imprisoned the Sukarno government. Only five days in jail, he was finally released back.[2]
When the government turned to President Suharto, he joined the Golkar Party. Sofjan also close to Ali Murtopo and help to become private secretary Soedjono Humardani who was then the people in the inner circle of Suharto's rule.[2]
Then, starting from PT Pakarti Yoga, Sofjan Gemala Group pioneered the business in. Which he pioneered the company is capital gain ground By a letter from her father's house and the CSIS building.[2] CSIS building his own mortgage he after getting the green light from Ali Murtopo. Thanks to her hard work Gemala Group (until 2008) has employed more than 15 thousand workers have been engaged in foreign countries (Australia and Canada). He supervises several large companies such as Tata Vehicle insurance, battery manufacturer PT Yuasa Battery Indonesia, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and others.[2]
At the end of 2008, he became the number one in the business environment in Indonesia. Sofjan was elected general chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) VIII elected in the General Assembly at the Hotel Borobudur, 27 to 29 March 2008. Apindo Sofjan lead for the period 2008-2013.[2] This is the second time he lead Apindo after the previous period he was also selected.[3]
